Oil Supply

Lubrication's duty is to provide a gliding coat of oil to ;the mechanisms in a constant grind against each other; therefore, the viscosity levels in lubricants can influence the engine's performance; and if refills aren't done ;on time, the motor is prone to breakdowns and overheating. When it comes to lubes, both conventional and synthetic options are at your disposal. The oils used for greasing engines provide different properties to enhance its efficiency, ;such as high-pressure endurance, heat resistance, anticorrosive, antioxidant and detergent properties. Their density can range from very fluid, fluid, semi-fluid, semi-dense, dense, extra-dense to thick and due to their properties, oils are classified as regular oil, detergent oil, and multigrade oil. Also, synthetic formulas merge both detergent and cross-functional properties, allowing an easy start at any temperature. Some of the additives on the market are already included as an ;upgrade in the lube's formula. These supplements attend certain needs and characteristics of the engine while also being responsible for the base oil improvement thanks to their anti-oxidating agents, corrosion blockers, and anti-foam properties. Remember, the cylinder, crankset, camshaft, rocker shaft, crankshaft benches, distribution gears, and the piston walls are the engine's main lubrication points and the lower case acts as ;an oil deposit that ;has a suctioning pump at the bottom to transfers oil through a strainer. Then, at the exit of this pump, oil travels to a refining filter.

Pressure

The pressure levels that support oil circulation must be precise for the oil to reach the greasing points but, keep in mind it shouldn't be excessive; especially since it's a useless expense that could produce carbonic deposits in valves and cylinders. There's a gauge settled on the dashboard to check on the pressure levels of the lubrication system. Sometimes, it's a light placed on the dashboard that lets you know the oil pressure is inadequate by turning the light on.

Lubrication Through Unused Oil

Each spot to be lubricated receives ;the required amount ;of oil though, the flow guided by the pump may rely on the engine's load and number of revolutions. This method provides clean oil at a fresh temperature in the spots to be greased but, you must be aware that effective cooling ;won't be possible because these quantities are supplied in small amounts.

Mixture Lubrication

This is the most convenient way to lubricate the engine, oil is added to the mixture in the carburetor through a special tank and a metering pump. Though, just as mentioned above, the flow driven by the pump might depend on the engine's load and the number of revolutions. Mixing lubrication can be used exclusively in two-stroke engines, where the blend circulates through the crankcase.

Splash ;Lubrication

This method is present in smaller engines and is managed by the bearing being in contact with the oil and splashing it through the bearing housing, releasing the oil to splatter all the lubrication spots. It's frequently used as a complement to the pressure greasing circuit.

Pressure Circuit Lubrication

This method is the most used ;when it comes to lubrication and consists mainly of a pump sucking oil from the crankcase, usually through a filter and, after the necessary pressure given to cross the oil filter, it continues towards the different engine pipes ;to reach all greasing points. Finally, the oil excess goes back ;to the crankcase.

Dry Crankcase Lubrication

Its use is preferred in all-terrain and sports vehicles. The oil returning to the carter will be sent through an aspirating pump, to an auxiliary tank from which, ;by means of a pressurized oil pump, will be pushed towards the greasing points. This ensures good lubrication even in case of large inclinations in the vehicle's position. Now that you’ve read through some of the basics about different types of lubrication, it's fair to shed some light on the best engine treatment, AMSOIL's ;Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil ;supplies protection against wear guaranteeing ;maximum protection and performance.
