Some drivers would mix their synthetic oil with regular formulas to keep the vehicle lubricated but it can be rough on the engine and diminish oil performance. Still, if there's no other option available, here's what you need to know. ;

Each brand of motor oil has different formulas for their products and although it's safe to mix them, it's not advisable to do it ;if it isn't an emergency. Mixing different brands is especially worrisome since components and additives might not harmonize and incompatible oils will not improve your vehicle's performance and could lead to more oil consumption. Broadly speaking, conventional and synthetic oils are composed of the same compatible ;elements, given that both formulas are made of a combination of base oils and additives. There is no danger in mixing synthetic and regular oils; even those with the same viscosity range; though, ;most likely they were manufactured with different additive chemistry. However, synthetic oil has a cleaner ;formula due to its production process, where the impurities found in conventional oils are eliminated. While it's safe to add conventional oil to an engine that normally uses synthetic motor oil, keep in mind that it will decrease synthetic oil's efficiency and benefits. If you found yourself in a situation where you must dilute the synthetic oil in your engine, ;it's advisable to change it as soon as possible.
